This guide will show you exactly how to ship your sawmill blades so they arrive safe, clean, and ready for a fresh edge.
What Kind of Blades Can I Ship?
We accept most band sawmill blades from popular brands like Wood-Mizer, TimberKing, Baker, and others. If you’re not sure about your blade type, just give us a call or shoot us an email!
Step-by-Step: Shipping Your Blades for Sharpening
1️⃣ Clean Your Blades First
Before shipping, please remove excess:
- Rust
- Sap or pitch
- Dirt and debris
Why? This protects the shipping box, speeds up the sharpening process, and avoids the \$4.00 per blade cleaning fee for excessive rust or grime. (See our blade cleaning tips here).
2️⃣ Coil and Secure the Blades
Most band saw blades can be coiled into three loops (just like they were shipped when new). If you’re not sure how, look up a quick video or ask us—we’re happy to help!
Secure each coiled blade with:
- Zip ties
- Strong rubber bands
- Twist ties
Do not tape blades together—it makes uncoiling difficult and sticky.
3️⃣ Pack Them in a Strong Box
Choose a sturdy corrugated box that fits the coiled blades snugly. You can also place a piece of cardboard between each blade to prevent rubbing.
Recommended packing materials:
- Bubble wrap or foam
- Crumpled paper
- Cardboard dividers
Avoid: Loose items, flimsy boxes, or newspaper that can tear.
4️⃣ Include a Note Inside the Box
Be sure to include:
- Your full name
- Return shipping address
- Phone number and email
- Number of blades enclosed
- Any special instructions
